Room tip: go for rooms on the first floor than the second

We went to Shimla in last May, the peak season of this region. My mother being the central Govt. employee we got the rooms in cheaper price. We sent the DD for advance booking which they returned back as they have stopped accepting it and now only online bookings are acceptable in their website: holidayhomes. nic. in
Don't go for dormitories. Comparing to that double bed rooms or four bed suits are just great. The architecture and the design carry the legacy of British period. Not happy about the room service. I think as most of the rooms were occupied there were less number of staffs. Few paid coolies were there to carry your luggage while check in & out.
A veg restaurant is there but they are not 24 hours operational.
The hotel is full of monkeys though few security guards were there to protect the guests from them, however, better be refrain from giving them food or disturb them to avoid mishap.
The garden and other areas are neatly maintained. Can be a good option for 2-3 days leisure.

Excellent hotel near hotel, government own hotel .You have to book online, very low rent compare to rooms are provided. Excellent location ,very close to mall and shimla kalibari. Only drawback cars are not allowed but you will get porter.

Though hotel is well maintained, but the access lacks traveling on vehicle and one needs to climb almost 2 1/2 kms to reach it. We found it quite difficult to reach with our heavy luggage, kids and senior citizens with us. The rooms are good, spacious especially the suites and the food provided is reasonable with regard to taste, price and quality. Monkeys are a big nuisance here. One needs to be careful with them.

Grand hotel is on top of the hill. Can be seen from railway station. Available for Govt servant at cheaper rate but have to book on holiday homes site. Poorly maintained. Rats and monkeys won't allow you to sleep at night. Walkable distance from ridge/ Mall Road.
